“Animals in Art”
Approximately 60 visual art students from Lithgow High School are exhibiting their printmaking and ceramic work at Potters Needs Gallery, 75 Curtis Street, Oberon.
The students are from years seven to nine and were given the theme “Animals in Art”. Once the subject was decided upon (either a bird, insect, animal or fish) the image was drawn and transferred onto a piece of lino for carving. Most students produced an edition of ten lino prints, then using white or terracotta clay made embossed print ceramic plates which were then decorated in underglaze colours, glazed in a lead free clear glaze and then fired in a pottery kiln to 1100 degrees Celsius.
Victoria Theyers, owner of Potters Needs Gallery says “the quality and bold designs of the students’ work is amazing and Anne Smith, the art teacher should be congratulated for her dedication and expertly guided tuition.”
This exhibition will be opened by the principle of Lithgow High School on Saturday the 6th August at 3pm at the Potters Needs Gallery, 75 Curtis Street, Oberon.
