“Moulded Forms”
Our featured ceramasist this month is Virginnia Lavicka from Wongarbon, Central Western NSW (just outside Dubbo)
Virginnia specialises in mould making and her work reflects her love and passion for this process.
Virginnia says “from the first mould that I made and cast, I have loved making moulds. They are such a versatile medium. One mould can make a dozen different objects, the only limits are your imagination. I have made and cast a great variety of moulds, from ceramic masks to a 6 foot leather man! I love the way the clay works with the moulds, whether you are using a casting slip or rolled coils or slabs. I intergrate mixed media into my works by recycling old materials such as glass, feathers, fabrics, vintage jewellery and metals.”
The inspiration for this exhibition began at an auction where Virginnia purchased 2 old model dummies from which she cast a mould, the rest is history…………
Virginnia says she is intrigued with human torsos and a great deal of this exhibition is about human form and to showcase the versatility of moulds.
Our featured artist is well known and respected Ann Warnes, whose vibrant acrylic works capture the energy and flow of her subjects. This time we see Ann pushing her boundaries by contributing some abstract works.
Victoria Theyers, owner of Potters Needs gallery says “ I am always amazed at Ann’s work. She captures the very “essence” of what she wants you to see, and put is on the canvas as clear as day”
