“Domestic Space”

Potters Needs Gallery is hosting another exciting exhibition representing “Domestic Space”. Artist Rebecca Dowling says “I just wanted to show you how much I like bowls”

After completing a Masters degree in 2002 from The Australian National University, Rebecca moved to a farm at Cowra where she works from her studio made from straw bale and rammed earth. Rebecca uses a high firing stoneware body which she has chosen for its’ versatility of use. It can be used in the microwave, fridge, oven and is completely dishwasher proof. Rebecca says “all my work is thrown on the pottery wheel with the idea of domestic space in mind. Bowls, plates, serving dishes; the importance of function, and the spaces in which they exist”.

Victoria Theyers, owner of Potters Needs Gallery says “I adore Rebecca’s work and I actually have a number of pieces I use daily. It is so lovely to have handmade artworks that you can enjoy through simple pleasures such as cooking and eating.”

Rebecca’s works reflect her natural surroundings, the colour of browning wheat, river gums and gentle undulations of the landscape.

Then came the inevitable children shots, the odd wedding etc.. Finally the graduation to the dreadful digital age and the usual take it now to look at it later system. Here are some that deserve a second look.”
